The law of contract is a very general term that covers all legal relationships created by the offer, acceptance, and consideration of an exchange of promises. Contracts are usually divided into two categories: bilateral and unilateral. A bilateral contract is where there is an exchange of promises between two parties (such as in an employment contract) while a unilateral contract is where one party makes a promise and the other party just has to accept it (such as in a gift or inheritance).

In business law, contracts are used to solve problems that arise between individuals, businesses or both. For example, if you write a book and someone publishes it, you'd both be able to use the law of contract to try to solve any disputes that might come up between you, such as claiming royalties or trying to get the book taken off the market. Also, if you buy something from a store, there's usually some sort of sales slip or receipt stating the terms of your agreement with the shop owner, and these documents can also be used by both parties to resolve disputes in favor of one party or another.

The law of contract is an important part of business law because it governs the legal consequences related to breach of contract. The law of contract can involve civil or criminal cases that are filed in court or settled outside the courtroom. Every state has its own laws that govern contracts and what the consequences are for breaching a contract.
