If your bankruptcy was discharged seven years ago and you haven't had a major financial problem since, it may have come and gone from your credit report already. However, if you still have problems with debt, it can take up to ten years for a bankruptcy to fall off of your credit report. Bankruptcy is typically removed from your credit report seven years after the filing date of the petition in your case.

If you're still making payments on debts that are part of a chapter 13 plan, the seven-year date starts when you complete the payments in full. If you're not being held accountable for paying any debt that comes out of the case—because it was discharged, for example—the seven-year period starts from the date that the bankruptcy was filed on your behalf.
