How do you send a will to a probate registry?
You can file it with the probate court or register of wills in your county. These offices are usually located in the county courthouse. Most counties charge a filing fee, but some do not.
Before you file for probate, you need to qualify as the executor. In most cases, this will be the person named in the Will. There may also be more than one executor. If no executor is named, the next-of-kin will take on this responsibility. However, they may not be the best person to take on this responsibility. If you're unable to nominate a successor executor, you can also renounce the role through the courts.
A grant of probate is a legal document that allows you to use the will as proof of your deceased person's wishes. In order to receive the grant of probate, you must send the original will and any codicils to the probate registry.
