You might be able to get out of having a solicitor through a no-fault divorce if there are no other complicating factors. If you can prove that you've been living separately for at least six months, you can file a petition for divorce without the need for a solicitor. This proves that your spouse has been notified of the petition, and he or she is given the chance to object. If you want to avoid going through a court hearing, which will require you to use a solicitor anyway, it's best to try to negotiate with your spouse and settle the terms of the separation yourselves.
