Can you have a debit card if you declare bankruptcy?
Can you have a debit card if you declare bankruptcy?
Bank accounts are a necessary part of your life, and after bankruptcy, you can still have them if you meet certain criteria. Some banks won't allow you to keep your credit card if you file for bankruptcy.
Bankruptcy is a last resort for people who cannot pay off their debts. In many cases, debtors opt to file for bankruptcy after being out of work or unable to pay off medical bills. If you're filing for bankruptcy, you must list all of your debts, including any credit card debts. If you're able to pay off your debts with this method, you'll be able to keep your home.
In some cases, banks will allow you to retain a basic bank account after filing for bankruptcy. However, it's unlikely that your current bank will agree to let you keep your account because you have other debts with them. If you can, try to transfer your account to a different adult so you can keep your account open.
