Are no-fault and personal injury protection the same coverage?
Are no-fault and personal injury protection the same coverage?
No-fault and personal injury protection are two different kinds of insurance coverage. No-fault coverage refers to a set of laws in your state that determine who pays for any damage done in an accident. Personal injury protection is the amount of money you're covered for if you're hurt in a car accident, and it's not your fault.
No-fault insurance refers to the system by which money damages are paid out in an accident. It is different from state to state, but typically, it means that if you get into an accident where nobody is at fault, then your own insurance will pay out damages. That's different from every other kind of insurance in that with other kinds of insurance (like home or life), you have to prove fault before you can be compensated. In those cases, one person has to be found at fault for the accident, and then the other people involved can be compensated.
