A petition for probate is one of the forms you'll fill out when you're filing for probate. It's a legal document that starts the process of administering an estate and distributing the assets to those entitled to them. The petitioner is usually the executor (or personal representative), a family member, or a person appointed by the court. The petition must be filed with the probate court along with several other documents, including an order for probate, an inventory and appraisement (which lists all of the assets in the estate), statements from those involved in administering the estate or those who will receive property under it (known as beneficiaries), and a proposed order of distribution of assets. Basically, everything needs to be well documented.

A petition for probate is a document that is filed with the court in order to begin the process of administering an estate. It's commonly used to give instructions to the court regarding how you want your home distributed after your death, and who will take care of any minor children you leave behind. The document itself doesn't require much information beyond what you want, which is helpful since it asks for all of the most difficult questions up front.
